Summary: | Technological evaluation of mobile devices raised the data generation and it led to better analysis of it. Typically, data collection and analysis done on cloud server as they are full of resources but it takes much longer time for immediate tasks such as security system. So, to overcome this issue various concepts were introduced like Fog computing and Cloudlet. They served the purpose but still there was space for new technology that can make computation near to the user so that it can have lowest latency possible. This technology came in form of Mobile Edge Computing (MEC). Mobile Edge Computing is a promising technology that can be useful in networking, data collection, and even for assisting other services like Cloud and Fog. MECs can be any smart device located at the end of the network. MEC devices are capable of computing tasks such as object detection, identification and taking prompt action based on specific situations. MEC can help reduce latency, increasing data availability, task offloading, and even for some local execution. This survey includes basic Edge concepts, need of Edge system, related technologies and their work, abilities and limitations. Simulation tools for the same are also been discussed briefly. |
