Description
Summary:The purpose is to study the structure of Harderian glands after the implantation of polylactic acid and polycaprolactone into the cornea’s own substance. In vivo experiments were performed with 15 Sylvilagus bachmani rabbits using. The animals we divided into three groups. An intact group and two experimental groups. Each group had 5 animals. A second group of animals had an 8.0 mm diameter polylactic acid film implanted into the corneal autologous layer, and a third group of animals had an 8.0 mm diameter polycaprolactone film implanted into the corneal autologous layer. We used Corneregel (twice a day) postoperatively. The Harderian glands of each group were examined 30 days after the start of the experiment. Glands from each group were fixed, embedded according to accepted procedures, and stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Results showed that the implantation of polymers films into the corneal stroma is accompanied by the development of minor reactive changes in Harderian glands: the moderate vascular congestion, an edema of the gland stroma. Reactive changes in Harderian glands demonstrate surgical effects on morphological changes in the glands.
