Summary: | Red Chili (Capsicum annum) is one of the horticultural commodities that has a high economic value. To improve the quality and quantity of production, it is necessary to carry out plant breeding between the Laris variety, which has high productivity, and the SSP variety, which has a long shelf life. The purpose of this study was to characterize the genetic diversity of the F2 chili population from a cross between Laris and SSP using SSR molecular markers. Thirty primers were used on both Laris and SSP, and the result showed that eight of the 30 primers gave polymorphic bands. The eight primers were then tested on 42 of the F2 progeny and were analyzed for a genetic relationship using clustering analysis (UPGMA) phylogenetic trees. At the similarity coefficient of 0.74, there were 5 clusters. Cluster 1 consisted of Laris and 29 F2 progenies. Cluster II consisted of SSP and 8 F2 progenies. Meanwhile, 5 progenies were in separate other clusters. |
