Description
Summary:The radioactive anomalies finding in Rantedoda area, Tapalang sub-district, Mamuju, West Sulawesi, give a clue that there are potential of radioactive mineral in this area. In Botteng, Takandeang, and Hulu Mamuju area in Mamuju, davidite ((U, Ce, Fe)2(Ti, Fe, V, Cr)5O12), thorianite (ThO2), britholite (Ce, Ca, X)5(SiO4)3(OH), thorutite (Th, U, Ca)Ti2(O, OH)6, and monazite (REE, Th(PO4)) were found as primary radioactive minerals, meanwhile gummite (UO3.nH2O) and autunite (CaO.2UO3.P2O5.8H2O) were found as secondary radioactive minerals. Analysis of uranium and thorium bearing minerals in the Rantedoda area has never been carried out, so the type of radioactive minerals in this area is still unknown. The objective of this research is to identify U and Th-bearing minerals from Rantedoda, using Elemental Mapping Micro-XRF (EMMX) analysis to figure out the elemental distribution, geochemical composition, and determine U-and Th-bearing minerals. The presences of ThO2 range from 0.06-0.13 wt%, UO2 0.00-0.09 wt%, and rare earth elements range from 0.00-1.21 wt%, dominantly composed by Y2O3 0.00-0.03 wt%, and Ce2O3 0.21-1.21 wt%. Analysis results show that the distribution pattern of U is similar to the distribution of Ca, P, and Sr elements, and in groundmass, meanwhile Th is mostly distributed in groundmass. Mineral identification by Advanced Mineral Identification and Characterization System (AMICS) shows that U and Th accumulated on apatite mineral and groundmass that consisted of clay minerals such as montmorillonite and chlorite. These minerals occurrences can be a guide to the next exploration target.
