Summary: | In hydrological applications and water resource management, accurate rainfall information is crucial. The rainfall data from the optimal design of rain gauge stations improves the accuracy of rainfall estimation at the point and/or regional level. The measure of network accuracy depends on the number and spatial location of rain gauge stations. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to propose the methods in subject to determine the optimal number and location of rain gauge stations in Pahang states. The combination of the geostatistics method (variance-reduction method) and artificial bee colony as the algorithm of optimization will be used. The coupled algorithm will be applied to a case study with 136 existing rain gauge stations in Pahang. The anticipated outcome shows that the ideal location of rain gauge offers the lowest possible estimate variance. In order to provide accurate rainfall estimates over the watershed, the obtained optimal rain gauge network will be considered to be adequate. |
