Summary: | Increasing soil stability can be done by lowering permeability value and increasing the soil’s shear strength. In this study, the authors tried to compare river sand’s shear strength and permeability values in several locations along the Batang Kuranji watershed and Air Dingin Lubuk Minturun watershed in Padang. Several laboratory tests were carried out to determine the characteristics of river sand, namely the physical properties test, mechanical properties, and hydraulic properties. The standard for laboratory testing is the Indonesian Nasional Standard (SNI). At each location, sampling was carried out at three points, each point being approximately 1 m apart, so total sand samples in this study were nine. Disturbed soil sampling was carried out using a hoe, and after that, the sample was put into the plastic using an iron spoon as much as 5 kg, and soil sampling using a cylindrical ring. The results showed that the value of shear strength of the Air Dingin watershed was greater than that of The Batang Kuranji watershed. Meanwhile, the permeability value of sand in the Air Dingin watershed is lower than the value of permeability of sand in the Batang Kuranji watershed. |
