Description
Summary:The Annonaceae family is one of the secondary metabolite producing plants that has a variety of chemical, biological, and pharmacological characteristics, one of them is anti-cytotoxic. The cytotoxic activity of the methanol extract of leaves, bark, roots, fruits and seeds of five plants of the Annonaceae family, namely: Annona muricata, Annona squamosa, Annona reticulata, Cananga odorata, and Polyalthia longifolia, has been tested using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method. Selected plant extracts showed cytotoxic activity against the larvae of Artemia salina Leach. The A. muricata plant parts used were leaves, bark, roots, fruit, and seeds with an LC50 value of 7.68; 19.67; 20.66; 49.28 and 28.64 ppm. The A. squamosa plant parts used were leaves, bark, roots, fruit and seeds yielding an LC50 value of 29.33; 51.02; 69.24; 29.92 and 20.64 ppm. The A. reticulata plant parts used were leaves, bark, roots, fruit, and seeds yielding an LC50 value of 31.62; 87.78; 36,35; 2890.81 and 18.03 ppm. The C. odorata plant parts used were leaves, bark and roots yielding LC50 values 112.27; 97.88 and 20.22 ppm; and P. longifolia plant parts used were leaves, bark and roots yielding an LC50 value of 23.06; 42.27 and 42.92 ppm. Based on the results obtained, the Annonaceae family plant extract that has the highest cytotoxic activity is A. muricata leaf extract.
