Description
Summary:Various types of cooling systems are widely used in Iraq to achieve comfortable conditions for occupants during the hot summer. Large amounts of energy are consumed due to the use of cooling systems in buildings for various activities. Improving the coefficient of performance for HVAC systems is an essential priority within sustainable energy management strategies. In the present paper, an experimental study was carried out to determine the effect of cooling the condenser in a split unit type air conditioner with a capacity of (1 refrigeration ton) indirectly through the passage of air over a wet filling. A different thickness of pads (3, 5 and 7 cm) was used. The pad was moistened with water at different volume flow rates ranging from (100, 125, and 150) liters / h. The rate of airflow passing through the condenser was fixed to determine the refrigeration system’s performance and the energy consumed compared to the reference case at different factors. The results showed that the best increase in the coefficient of performance of the system is (25.2%) when the thickness of the pad is (5 cm) and volume flow rate (100) liters / h, and the percentage of energy saving is 13.2%.
