Description
Summary:Slope stability become major issues in open-pit mining operation. Gold commodity usually find and controlled by structure and alteration zone which may affect its stability. This study aims to describe and provide a mitigation practice on controlled slope stability issue on hydrothermal alteration zone in a gold mining company that located in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatera Province, Indonesia. Clay-Breccia Paleo Metasomatic (CBPM) described as lithology unit which indicated as weak-layered hydrothermal alteration zone in the eastern slope of Barani Pit. CBPM is known as high-oxidized zone, brittle, and high-sensitivity on water. The contact zone between Volcanic Andesitic Hornblende (VANh) and CBPM known with its Factor of Safety (FoS) of 2.02 and 0.47 respectively. CBPM shown as the weakest zone and required special attention and treatment. The engineering methodology applied to stabilize CBPM zone using artificial ground support (AGS). AGS applied in the mining area were using a combination of cable bolts and shotcrete. AGS shown able to increase the FoS up to 2.4.
