Description
Summary:The importance of retaining wall is when the excavation depth is large from the ground level. It is even more threatening when the water table is present at a shallow depth. Hence a numerical analysis is preferable before commencing the work, to ensure the stability of the wall. A super-structure with 12 floors and 2 levels of the basement is proposed. The basement excavation is done by providing a secant pile as a retaining structure. For the given soil profile, a numerical analysis is performed. The displacement, shear force, bending moment and safety factor is studied. It is observed that the displacement increases with an increase in the depth of excavation due to a reduction in passive pressure and shear force. The depth of maximum bending occurred at a depth of 1.25 times the depth of excavation. The major advantage of doing the analysis is to ensure the safety factor; here the safety factor is well within the safe limit.
