Description
Summary:Vertebral osteoporotic fractures are a frequent event in elder patients. Sometimes the fracture is an occasional finding in asymptomatic patients, but in many cases it causes not only pain but also a series of events that lead to serious disability, up to a shortening of life. For these reasons it is really important to assess carefully, either clinically or radiographically, the elder patient who complains of lumbago. The medical therapy of osteoporosis, combined to a correct treatment of fractures, leads to a satisfying result in these patients. If correct indications are given, vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty could be really successful in the surgical treatment of this pathology.
