Summary: | A TBC subjected to TMF loading may spall off after a sufficiently large number of cycles. This is a consequence of a combination of general fatigue damage growth and strong internal stresses caused by oxidation in the bondcoat/topcoat interface. Further, at the ends of the coating there are stress singularities, at which early fatigue cracks tend to develop. This can, however, be avoided or delayed by making the coating end chamfered. This work investigates the influence of coating end chamfer on the fatigue life of an APS TBC. |
