Summary: | Engdahl et al note the evidence report and systematic review and a recommendation statement on atrial fibrillation screening using electrocardiography (ECG) published by the US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). The USPSTF concluded that current evidence is insufficient to assess the balance of benefits and harms of screening for atrial fibrillation. Engdahl et al find the USPSTF's statement that "the harms of diagnostic follow-up and treatment prompted by abnormal ECG results are well established and include misdiagnosis and invasive testing, since Table 3 in the evidence report stated that the strength of evidence is low for anxiety and insufficient for other harms. |
