Description
Summary:In a detailed review on the effect of urban run-off and storm-sewage overflows on receiving waters, topics dealt with include physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of run-off and receiving waters; impact of run-off on water quality, public health risks, and aesthetic conditions; development of water quality criteria and standards (including biological monitoring and use of bioassays); standards for intermittent discharges; modelling of system interactions and models for urban storm run-off; factors requiring further research; and critical measures for regulating considerations. Information on sewage characteristics and river water quality and on average urban run-off quality, in various countries, on effect of presence or absence of indicators on perceived water quality cores, and on macroinvertebrate equilibration uptake and mortality in response to storm-sewage discharges is tabulated.
