Summary:The Yi are the largest and most disadvantaged ethnic minority population in southwestern China. This region contains over eight million Yi, with approximately 2.4 million living in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture (Liangshan) in Sichuan Province. Liangshan is located along one of the main drug trafficking routes from the 'Golden Triangle' to northwest and central China, making it one of the largest illicit drug production and distribution centers in China.
