Summary:By using combined chromatographic methods, four oleananesaponins, namely, 3β‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranosyl‐(1 → 6)‐β‐D‐glucopyranosyloleanolic acid 28‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranosyl ester (1), gymnemoside‐W1 (2), 3β‐O‐β‐D‐xylopyranosyl‐(1 → 6)‐β‐D‐glucopyranosyl‐(1 → 6)‐β‐D‐glucopyranosyl oleanolic acid 28‐O‐β‐D‐glucopyranosyl ester (3), and alternoside XIX (4) were isolated from the methanol extract of the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre (Retz.) R.Br. ex Schult. Their structures were identified on the basis of spectroscopic evidence and in comparison with those reported in the literature.
