Abstract 11578: Prognostic Impacts of Dynamic Left Ventricular Structural Changes in Heart Failure Patients With Preserved Ejection Fraction -A Report From the CHART-2 Study
BackgroundIt remains unknown whether cardiac structures change over time in patients with heart failure (HF) with preserved left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (LVEF) (HFpEF).MethodsWe enrolled 2,698 consecutive HFpEF patients (69±12 years, 32% female) from our Chronic Heart Failure Analysis and...

Summary: | BackgroundIt remains unknown whether cardiac structures change over time in patients with heart failure (HF) with preserved left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (LVEF) (HFpEF).MethodsWe enrolled 2,698 consecutive HFpEF patients (69±12 years, 32% female) from our Chronic Heart Failure Analysis and Registry in the Tohoku District (CHART)-2 Study (N=10,219). We divided them into 3 groups by baseline echocardiography data; G1 (normal structures, N=989), G2 (LV hypertrophy (LVH) alone, N=1,448), and G3 (both LVH and LV enlargement (LVE), N=261). We annually examined the temporal transitions among groups.ResultsDuring a median 6.5-year follow-up, 698 (26%) developed the primary outcome, a composite of cardiovascular death or HF admission. From G1, G2 to G3 at baseline, the incidence for the primary outcome significantly increased. Among 1,906 patients with echocardiography data both at baseline and 1-year, only 218 (11%) developed LVEF deterioration (LVEF |
