| Summary: | In terms of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, (Act 108 of 1996) and the Water Services Act, (Act 108 of 1997), municipalities have the executive authority over the provision of water services (defined as water supply and sanitation services) within their areas of jurisdiction. The Water Services Act sets out the institutional framework which outlines the roles and responsibilities of local government as a Water Services Authority. One of these responsibilities is to ensure effective and efficient Water Services Provider (WSP) institutional arrangements. |
