Description
Summary:New interactions between hospital and nonhospital medical care have been set up in recent years. For economic and social reasons, a trend toward redeployment from hospital care to outpatient care has been noted. This opening up to nonhospital care not only provides hospitals with opportunities but also constitutes a challenge for hospitals, which now have to learn more about providing outpatient care. There are real cultural and organizational differences between these two types of medical activity. Although the latter sometimes seem to involve diametrically opposed prerogatives, they are in fact eminently complementary. An example of the care provided for patients with cancer provides a good illustration of the cooperation expected between the general practitioners and oncologists concerned. Through the eyes of a young general practitioner, we attempt to highlight the richness of our profession, and we set out our expectations concerning «relations between hospital and nonhospital care».
