Calorimetric investigation of the enthalpy of hydrolysis and condensation reactions of methyl-alkoxy-silanes during sol-gel processes
By calorimetric measurements the heats of gel formation of alkoxy-silanes are shown to be the sum of the molar enthalpies (related per mol alkoxy groups of the starting product) of hydrolysis (6.2±0.3 kJ mol −1), condensation (−4.5±0.3 kJ mol −1) and sol-gel transformation (−1.8 to −3.4 kJ mol −1)....
