Mechanism and kinetics of the oxidation of diketosuccinic acid by molybdenum(VI) in perchloric acid
The oxidation of diketosuccinic acid dihydrate has been investigated by u.v. spectrophotometric measurements. In perchloric acid, the rate law was found to be: rate = k [Mo(VI)] [substrate] [H +] n . The n values are discussed with respect to the acidity and the ionic strength. The condensation of M...

. The
n values are discussed with respect to the acidity and the ionic strength. The condensation of Mo(VI) had little influence on the rate. Evidence for a free-radical mechanism was given by induced reduction of mercury(II) chloride, indicating that the reaction proceeded by one-electron steps. The formation of a transient complex at low acidities is supported by spectral and kinetic data. |
