Reaction diffusion in the silverhafnium system

Reaction diffusion between pure Ag and Hf in the temperature range from 1070 to 1180 K has been studied. Two intermetallic compounds, AgHf and AgHf 2, have been observed in the diffusion zone. The layer growth of the AgHf phase obeys a parabolic law without incubation time, while the AgHf 2 phase ap...

Description
Summary:Reaction diffusion between pure Ag and Hf in the temperature range from 1070 to 1180 K has been studied. Two intermetallic compounds, AgHf and AgHf 2, have been observed in the diffusion zone. The layer growth of the AgHf phase obeys a parabolic law without incubation time, while the AgHf 2 phase appears after a long incubation time (432 ks) at 1180 K and cannot be observed below 1150 K. The temperature dependence of the interdiffusion coefficient and the square of the layer growth rate constant of the AgHf phase shows linear Arrhenius relationships. The activation energy for interdiffusion in the AgHf phase is nearly equal to that for the layer growth of it.
