Partial trapping of a beam in a cold collisional plasma

It is shown that the nonlinear trapping of an electron beam in a cold plasma with electron−ion collisions can result in only a partial trapping of the beam. The electrons separate into two groups, one near their original velocity and the other at a lower, secularly decreasing wave velocity.
