Summary: | The taking up of cations in low concentration by filter paper and active carbon was studied. Adsorption isotherms followed very closely Freundlich's adsorption isotherm in all cases. Effects of pH and concentration of coexistent salt on adsorption of cation in question onto active carbon were described by the experimental formula derived previously. Adsorption of Fe ( III) onto active carbon increases with increasing concentration of hydrochloric acid. An empirical formula was introduced for this phenomenon. Experimental results on the relation between activity of hydrochloric acid and adsorption ratio of Fe (III) onto active carbon can be explained well by this proposed formula. This formula is apparently identical with the formula derived previously, but its adsorption model is not clear. |
