Description
Summary:On the initiative of the Science Advisory Council of the Presidency of the Republic, the Consejo Nacional de Ciencias y Tecnología and the Academia Mexicana de la Ciencias, on October 12, 2015 a national meeting on the social sciences was held under the title: "Where is science going in Mexico?" Seven thematic groups were identified, whose task was to "identify the main lines of research in the social sciences that should be promoted in a preferential manner according to two central criteria: their scientific importance; and their possible impact on the development of Mexico." The topics chosen for that meeting were: 1) economy, 2) violence, 3) youth, 4) social policy, inequality and poverty, 5) demographic dynamics, 6) justice and criminal justice systems and 7) basic education policy. Each topic had a coordinator who called a group of researchers to reflect on the suggested lines of research. The results of the exercise are presented in this article.
