Description
Summary:This article examines how the press in Argentina, Peru, Spain, France, and Austria, using photographic images, reported on the coup d'état of September 11, 1973, in Chile. We conducted a qualitative study analyzing 358 photographs from 13 international newspapers published between September 12 and October 17, 1973. The results show diverse visual narratives that describe the breakdown of Chilean democracy through references to the Popular Unity government, the coup, and the beginning of the dictatorship.
