Summary:This paper approaches a Verilog implementation for distance estimation using an external sensor, HC-SR04 module. The method involves the use of an FPGA with the Nexys4 DDR board. Other implementations, based on microcontrollers or VHDL language are also briefly exposed during the paper as already existing in the domain. This work will emphasize the utility of Verilog implementation of simple systems versus a legacy microcontroller or VHDL approach. Block diagrams, I/O planning, code parts will be presented. At the end some experimental results and conclusions are depicted.
