Description
Summary:This paper deals with regimes and noise properties of a little known but very promising class of oscillators comprising low phase noise and electronic tuning. The physics of operation is based on simultaneous cavity stabilization and combined injection locking by a relatively low frequency signal. Depending on active device and resonator types used a working band can vary from low to optical frequencies. At microwave and millimetre waves a 1-2.5% tuning range has been achieved experimentally so far. Noise in the oscillators under analysis are studied analytically, via computer simulation and practically. As shown, these oscillators can be more stable than their cavity stabilized prototypes.
