Protego, ergo sum? Polen, die PiS und die Weltwirtschaft

Im Wahlkampf 2005 übten die heutigen polnischen Regierungsparteien eine Fundamentalkritik an der Wirtschaftspolitik der 1990er Jahre. Dies löste die Befürchtung aus, die PiS würde die Errungenschaften der Tradition wieder rückgängig machen. Trotz Europaskepsis und protektionistischer Rhetorik hat die konservative Regierung jedoch an der Integration der polnischen Wirtschaft in die europäischen und globalen Märkte nicht gerüttelt. Sie ist bemüht, den Haushalt zu konsolidieren, hält den Zloty bislang stabil und hat dafür gesorgt, daß die Gelder aus den EUFonds konsequenter abgerufen werden. Negativ ist allerdings zu verbuchen, daß die Einführung des Euro in Frage gestellt ist und die Sozialausgaben weiter riesige Löcher in den polnischen Haushalt reißen. In the 2005 election campaign, the current Polish governing parties made criticised the foundations of economic policy in the 1990s. This gave rise to the fear that the Law and Justice party would undo the achievements realised. Despite the Euro-scepticism and protectionist rhetoric, however, the conservative government has not shaken the Polish economy's integration into European and global markets. It has taken efforts to consolidate the budget, keep the zloty stable and has seen to it that money from the EU funds is collected with greater consistency. In the negative column of the ledger, it is noted that the introduction of the euro has been called into question, and that social spending continues to leave enormous holes in the Polish budget.
