Spectroscopy of high vibrational levels of the N-N stretching mode of N-N- sup 16 O and N-N- sup 18 O

Description
Summary:The fundamental and overtones up to {nu} = 6 of the {nu}{sub 3} mode of N{sub 2}{sup 16}O and N{sub 2}{sup 18}O have been studied. The positions of the {nu}{sub 3} overtones can be fit by a two-parameter model since there is very limited interaction with other molecular vibrations. Vibrational self-consistent field and configuration interaction calculations and isotopic shift data show that the N-N stretching overtone is best described as a normal mode. Both N{sub 2}{sup 16}O and N{sub 2}{sup 18}O display line widths for the R branch of the {nu} = 6 overtone of less than 2 cm{sup {minus}1}.
