Description
Summary:In that portion of A Behavioral Theory of Labor Negotiations that deals with attitudinal structuring, Richard Walton and Robert McKersie focused on contract negotiations between union and management as a means of bringing about attitudinal restructuring of the union-management relationship. They chose this focus based on the presence of union and management leaders at these negotiations and the authors' view that any changes in leaders' attitudes would be likely to have an effect throughout their respective organizations. Introducing and promoting the concept of interest-based grievance mediation into the labor-management community was a significant challenge. Doing so involved familiarizing and training union and management representatives in the interest-based approach to dispute resolution.
