Summary: | Despite reported benefits, there is a great deal of reluctance by US corporations to aggressively pursue widespread implementation of telework programs. Research has found that telework programs result in consistently higher worker productivity, reduced turnover, and reduced absenteeism. Issues that organizations should consider when planning telework programs include: establishment of a telework planning committee, establishment of policies for job and worker selection, and planning for financial impacts. It is extremely important to conduct a pilot telework program prior to full-scale implementation. Specific items to be addressed in the pilot program include identification of candidate jobs, teleworkers, and supervisors, and assessment of the pilot project. |
