Description
Summary:When it became obvious quite a few years ago that the traditional literature curriculum in American schools inadequately reflected the experiences of people from non-European backgrounds, most thoughtful educators began to incorporate literature by and about African Americans, Latinos/as, and Asians into classroom and supplemental reading activities. The horrifying attack on the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon more recently helped Kristina V. Mattis, like other thoughtful English educators, realize that literature about the Middle East needed to be part of the cultural mix. Almost four years after 9/11 and news flashes of "War in Iraq" and "Terrorist Attacks" continued to cover the television screen, it hit me.
