Description
Summary:The complex of bis(3-aminoacetanilide)monochloro copper(II) chloride dihydrate has been synthesized through the reaction of 1:6 mole ratio Cu(II) to 3-aminoacetanilide in methanol. Indication of the formation of the complex was observed by shifting of maximum wavelength in UV-Vis spectra of CuCl2·2H2O and Cu(II)-3- aminoacetanilide from 919 nm to 551 nm. The percentage of copper in the complex estimated that formula of the complex was Cu(3-aminoacetanilide)2Cl2(H2O)n (n=1, 2). The thermal analysis indicates that the complex contains 2 moles of H2O. The molar conductivity measurement of Cu(II)-3-aminoacetanilide showed that the charge ratio of cation/anion was 1:1. The plausible formula of complex was [Cu(of 3-aminoacetanilide)2Cl]Cl·2H2O. The complex was paramagnetic with an average magnetic moment value of 1.81 BM. The electronic spectra of the complex showed one peak at 551 nm. Therefore, the geometry of the complex was estimated to be in the form of a square pyramid. In vitro antibacterial test of copper(II), 3-aminoacetanilide, and the complex against Staphylococcus epidermidis showed that the complex performed the highest activity.
