Summary: | Sewage sludge is the remaining solid/semi-solid, generated as a by-product during wastewater treatment. Sludge creates social and health problems (eyes swelling, odor, hair fall, lungs, respiratory and vomiting) for the population living in adjoining areas. This experiment was planned for the alternative usage of sewage sludge generated from the wastewater treatment plant. Four levels of dry sewage sludge concentrations 0, 4, 8, and 12% mixed with concrete by sand weight were used for making specimens. The quality of the specimens were tested after 3, 7 and 28 curing days. These different specimens were tested for compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, density, specific gravity and workability at 0.5 water and cement ratio. The mean values of compressive, tensile, and flexural strength were tested after 3,7 and 28 curing days. The highest mean values of compressive (3198 psi), tensile (353 psi) and flexural (776 psi) were noted after 28 days. The compressive, tensile, and flexural strength increases by increasing the curing days. The value of the density and workability decreased by increasing concentration of sewage sludge in the concrete. Experimental results showed that no significant strength loss was found in compressive, tensile, and flexural strength for 0, 4, 8 and 12% sludge concentration after 3,7, and 28 curing days. |
