Summary: | TiO2 is used for many purposes of technology. One of the TiO2 sources is iron sand. The province of Lampung has many iron sand deposits. The researchers have done extraction of TiO2 from Lampung’s iron sand for several years, but the TiO2 purity is still not high enough. In this research, the purity level of TiO2 from Lampung’s iron sand has been tried to improve using the leaching method by variation of iron sand and NaOH ratio (i.e., 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4) and variation of H2SO4 concentration (8, 10, and 12 M). Then, iron sand is roasted at a temperature of 450oC for 2 hours. After that, the water leaching process was carried out three times and then continued with leaching using H2SO4 once at 90 oC for 90 minutes and washed again using distilled water. Then it proceeded with the drying stage and ended with the calcination stage at a temperature of 480 oC for 2 hours. In this study, nine samples were characterized using XRF, XRD, and SEM. The highest purity of TiO2 is reached with the iron sand and NaOH ratio of 1:3 and 10 M of H2SO4, i.e., 21,352 %. |
