Summary:Background: CrossFit is an increasingly popular form of physical activity. However, due to its specificity and high intensity, it carries with it a considerable risk of injuries. So it is important to know if some specific training including exercises derived from physiotherapy and functional training (MobilityWOD) can reduce the risk of injury. Objective: The aim of the study is to assess the effect of MobilityWOD training program on functional movement patterns related to the risk of injury in adult male CrossFit practitioners. Methods: The study included 30 men aged 20-35 years old who practice CrossFit training five timeper week. Initially, a functional evaluation was performed using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) test including a qualitative assessment of Deep Squat, Hurdle Step, In-Line Lunge, Shoulder Mobility, Active Straight-Leg Raise, Trunk Stability Push-Up, Rotational Stability. Then, for 8 weeks, the participants performed an additional MobilityWOD unit once a week. This training lasted 45 minutes. During MobilityWOD training, athletes performed the self-myofascial release technique, with foam rollers, lacrosse balls and resistance band exercises. After this time the evaluation was carried out using the FMS test. Results: After the MobilityWOD training program, the participants obtained significantly increased scores for the FMS test, scoring 17.3 ± 1.79 points compared to 15.9 ± 2.39 points before the program (medium effect size). The number of athletes scoring equal to or less than 14 points in the FMS test, which is associated higher injury risk, decreased (from 26% before MobilityWOD training to 6% after training). In the case of the specific test components Deep Squat, Shoulder Mobility, Active Straight-Leg Raise, results improved significantly. Conclusions: After MobilityWOD training, the FMS test result for CrossFit athletes improved significantly. The MobilityWOD training in the study group improved the quality of movements patterns and reduced risk of injury.
