Summary:In this paper we compare the potential for female choice of large males in six populations of H. cinerea by performing simulation choice tests using data on male size and call frequency. Tape recordings were made of mating calls of 30 male H. cinerea from each of six choruses in Illinois (Union County), northern Mississippi (Noxubee Co.), southern Mississippi (Hancock Co.), Louisiana (St. Martin Parish), northern Florida (Alachua Co.), and southern Florida (Dade Co.).
