Description
Summary:Conversion of magnesium chloride and sodium sulfate to magnesium sulfate and sodium chloride was studied using an electrodialysis unit configured for metathesis. The influences of current density and product concentration were examined. Product volume and total mols of each product were linear functions of time during an experiment. Production rate and power consumption associated with each product were linear functions of current density as expected. Current efficiencies exceeded 100%. Magnesium sulfate product purities exceeded 98 mol%. The current efficiencies and product purities were not affected over wide ranges of current density, run duration, and concentration gradients that were examined.
