Summary: | [...]our plan for the Watson paper has also gone awry; it will now appear in a subsequent issue. The Boston Globe's newly launched Statnews.com reported that many pharmaceutical companies and academic research institutions fail to report clinical data and results to one very important repository, ClinicalTrials.gov.8 To make matters even worse, neither the NIH nor the FDA has enforced mandatory reporting since it became law in 2008 for studies conducted with public funds.9 Thus the ClinicalTrials.gov database may not capture a complete data set of the efficacy or safety of the available treatments for a disease. |
