Solubilities of amorphous FeAs precipitates

The solubilities of amorphous FeAs precipitates were found to be lower than those reported by earlier authors for apparently amorphous ferric arsenate. Data obtained with our samples (pH 6, Fe As = 3.1 ; pH 6, Fe As = 5.9 ; pH 6, Fe As = 14.4 ; pH 8, Fe As = 3.1 ; and pH 10, Fe As = 5.9 ) were used...

Description
Summary:The solubilities of amorphous FeAs precipitates were found to be lower than those reported by earlier authors for apparently amorphous ferric arsenate. Data obtained with our samples (pH 6, Fe As = 3.1 ; pH 6, Fe As = 5.9 ; pH 6, Fe As = 14.4 ; pH 8, Fe As = 3.1 ; and pH 10, Fe As = 5.9 ) were used to calculate the solubility product at 23°C as K sp, (Fe 3+ AsO 4 3− = 10 −24.45 and for the calculation of free energy of formation as ΔG° (f) = −1277.68 kJ·mol −1. Our values correspond with those calculated for crystalline scorodite K sp (Fe 3+ AsO 4 3−) = 10 −24.41 ± 0.15 and ΔG° (f) = −1279.2 kJ · mol −1 published by Krause and Ettel.
