Description
Summary:Precision medicine using biomarkers to select the most effective and safe treatment options has been implemented for several diseases and conditions, and there is accumulating evidence that it also should be applied for the management of obesity. Weight gain and obesity are considered to develop as an interaction between susceptible genes, epigenetic influence, and environmental factors where diet composition may play a pivotal role. The importance of protein for satiety and weight control has been known for a decade but the role of fats versus carbohydrates has been debated for decades. Most research within precision dietary management of obesity is focusing on carbohydrates, but it is important to note that reducing the carbohydrate content of a diet most often increases the fat content of the diet accordingly [as protein content is normally rather fixed between 15% and 20% of energy (%E)]
