Summary: | New ways for organizing work are frequently based on individualized management of labor & a "model of competence" centered around the firm. Considered is whether this signals a trend toward decentralized collective bargaining, which could put an end to industry as the level for regulating the system of labor relations in France as it has been since the 1980s & the Auroux Act. Based on in-depth studies in two industries (plastics & pharmaceutics), the answers vary: industry-wide bargaining talks are still quite vital, but the contents tend to change. These negotiations no longer focus on new collective rights but on the individual's right of access & on the respect for formal proceedings. We thus catch a glimpse of a new way in which the company & economic branch levels are linked through the definition of rules & regulations for work. 24 References.
