Summary: | Look for increasing numbers of shippers to negotiate service levels with their customers. Instead of the "can-do," "add-more-value-for-less-price" kind of thinking heard for the last several years, there is a faint voice saying maybe there is a better way. It is a feeling that the shipping industry needs to serve customers profitably as it optimizes the supply chain. The industry must work in concert to understand the true costs of whatever constitutes customer service and, if those cost cannot be eliminated, then share them. A committee may be the best bet - people who can actually address issues. |
