Summary: | Community banks are targeting bigger customers and expanding their menu of business products and services, but finding and retaining talented people is the biggest issue they face, according to the latest commercial banking survey done for America's Community Bankers (ACB). Interestingly, the survey found that community banks are slightly less satisfied now than two years ago with their own array of commercial products and services. A separate survey of small businesses confirms that trends in Internet banking are exactly what community bankers should be worried about. Respondents to the ACB survey ranked "recruiting and retaining high quality commercial personnel" as the leading challenge they face. While recruiting good people ranked first among concerns, another finding of the ACB survey was that "improving commercial portfolio credit quality" has declined as a relative concern, perhaps because credit quality has been strong in recent years. Another area of concern revealed by the survey is international banking services. |
