Summary: | There are 5 ''Fs'' for managers to remember when dealing with employees: 1. friendliness, 2. frankness, 3. fairness, 4. faithfulness, and 5. firmness. Jacqueline White, vice-president of Concord Management Systems Inc. (Greenbelt, Maryland), enumerated these points at the recent TI-MIX 1982 International Symposium. Data processing (DP) managers face high turnover rates due to the expanding job market. Companies need a manpower planning team and an economic forecast for their industry. Managers need to identify and evaluate recruitment sources such as employee referrals. They also need to write detailed job descriptions. After the initial interview, the manager needs tools for further screening such as tests which relate specifically to the job. There are a number of ability and temperament surveys which can serve as additional testing instruments. Managers must motivate employees once they are selected and convince them to replace individual objectives with group ones. |
